Wanda Screening // Barbara Loden

Wanda is a film about one woman’s struggle in small town America, and it’s recently become an obsession of certain writers - the film comes up in Rachel Kushner’s The Flamethrowers and in Durga Chew Bose’s Too Much And Not The Mood. Last year an entire little book was published about Wanda because the author was supposed to write an encyclopedia entry and got carried away.

What’s so special about Wanda? It’s the only film Barbara Loden wrote, directed, and starred in, and is a reflection of a certain female experience. Marguerite Duras once wrote of Wanda’s final scenes, “I see a kind of glory there, a profound glory, very violent, very profound.”

So come watch Wanda!
